Health and Personal Fitness
The purpose of this required ninth grade course is to provide basic information
in the
areas of mental health, family living, human growth and development, drug and
substance abuse, nutrition, safety and first aid, and disease prevention. The
course is designed to provide knowledge that will help students develop proper
health habits and values that give them the opportunity to develop a healthy
life style. The course also covers the fundamental and current topics in physical
fitness, diet, and stress. The goal of the course is to encourage students to
develop an individual optimum level of physical fitness, to acquire knowledge
of physical fitness concepts, and to understand the significance of life style
on one's health and fitness. Required. Grade 9
Physical Education I, II, III, IV
The purpose of these courses is to provide more in-depth experiences in both
lifetime sports and fitness activities. Activities include team sports, racquet
sports, weight
training and conditioning, and recreational activities. Grades 9-12
Aerobic Dance IA
This course provides the student with an opportunity to enhance cardiovascular
endurance, muscle strength/endurance, and flexibility by participating in a
variety of aerobic activities. These activities include step aerobics, tae-bo,
walking/jogging, and strength training exercises. Grades 9-12
Aerobic Dance ID
This course is designed for those interested in increasing the intensity and
duration of cardiovascular fitness. Includes step aerobics, tae-bo, circuit
training and jogging. Prerequisite: Aerobic Dance IA
JROTC
JROTC I, II, III, IV
The JROTC program prepares students for responsible leadership roles while making
them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens.
The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school and it provides
instruction and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the student, community
and nation. The JROTC program is a cooperative effort on the part of the U.S.
Army and Hardaway High School to provide high school students with opportunities
for total development. Grades 9-12
