Wendy Harding

Return to the Spanish Language Department

Mrs. Wendy Harding has been the chairman of the Foreign Language Department since 1979. Mrs. Harding’s degrees include a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in German and a Master of Hispanic Studies from Auburn University. Mrs. Harding also studied at the University of Hartford, Connecticut and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain.

In addition to her studies and travels in Spain, Mrs. Harding accompanied her students to Mexico and she has traveled to Puerto Rico. She encourages Hispanic students to share their experiences in her Spanish classes and also invites native speakers from WHINSEC. Hardaway students visit Ft. Benning each year for the Open House sponsored by WHINSEC, where they meet people from Central and South America and learn more about their culture.

Mrs. Harding’s students have earned many honors, including Page One Foreign Language winners and runners-up, Governors Honors Program participants, Columbus State University Foreign Language Fair winners and membership in the Chattahoochee Valley Foreign Language Honor Society.

Mrs. Harding sponsors the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society), the National Honor Society, and the Future Educators of America.

Mrs. Harding is Hardaway's Teacher of the Year for 2006-2007 and the Muscogee County School District 2007 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Harding was the Sara Spano Page One Teacher in 2002, one of the Top Ten Teachers of the Year in the Muscogee County School District in 1998, Page One Teacher Runner-up in 1996, and Hardaway Teacher of the Year in 1980. She has served as President, Vice President, and Secretary of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Women Teachers Honorary. She is also a co-convener of the Columbus/LaGrange Academic Alliance for Foreign Language Teachers. Mrs. Harding is a member of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Phi Delta Kappa, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, and the Foreign Language Association of Georgia.
