I In first year foreign language classes, primary emphasis is placed on pronunciation, aural comprehension and vocabulary building. In addition, basic grammatical structures are introduced. Acquisition of knowledge of foreign cultures will be taught, with an emphasis of awareness of different value systems. Acceptance of cultural differences will be encouraged. |
| Latin I Introduces the Latin language; emphasizes reading, writing, and basic grammar skills. Covers how to greet and take leave of someone, to ask and respond to basic questions, to read and write within a range of selected topics. Some time is given to the study of Latin's influence on English. Roman liistory and culture are also studied. |

II Second year foreign language classes include a review of the material taught in first year and are designed to provide for the continued improvement of the student's pronunciation, the enlargement of his vocabulary , the presentation of new and more advanced facets of grammar and an exposure to more history , culture and civilization. |

III Third year foreign language classes encompass a review of all previously studied grammatical concepts. Advanced grammatical structures and vocabulary are studied in greater depth. Exclusive use of the foreign language in the classroom is recommended. Selections from literature are read and discussed to facilitate reading comprehension, speaking, and cultural awareness. Greater emphasis is placed on writing in a variety ofassignments. |

The courses include an advanced grammar review and study of idiomatic expressions. Emphasis is placed on mastery and active use of irregular verb fonns and idiomatic expressions. The course also includes exploration of various fonns of literature, fine arts and history , as well as appreciation of cultural differences. Exclusive use of the foreign language is strongly recommended. |
| English as a Second Language The major goal of the ESOL program is for the student to learn to communicate effectively in English. The ESOL program enables the student to use English actively from the very beginning of the instructional program, and the program encourages continued support of the culture, customs and language of the native country as well as of this country .The ESOL program enables the student to use English actively in speaking and writing, and to comprehend English that is spoken and written. |
