"IB has helped me in college in a variety of ways. Ranging from time management, organization, and study skills, IB has definitely put me in the spot that I need to be in to be successful in college. Ms. Hampel’s Math Studies class helped me so much and prepared me so well for college. I'm taking statistics this semester and it is so easy for me now. I feel that I know most everything he’s going to teach us.” David AliFarhani Class of 2006 UAB
For me, the International Baccalaureate Programme wasn't about preparation for college, or better SAT scores, or anything like that. It was about the knowledge I received while in the Programme. I learned to love not just my best subject of English, but also specialized History, Biology, and Statistics. The 20th Century History course my Senior year truly fostered a love of Russian History that I wouldn't have developed had I not entered the IB Programme. While English was my favorite subject, others learned to understand and love difficult literature on their own with the diverse literature required by the Programme. Math and Science are two of the hardest subjects for most high schoolers today, but the IB Programme's, once again, diverse nature in coursework encouraged a love of both of these subjects. The International Baccalaureate Programme wasn't simply a harder way through high school, or a way to get into a good university. It was the nourishment necessary to allow a group of young individuals fall in love with learning, so that when they did, and do, get to University they enjoy and love creativity and learning and therefore excel in everything they do. Jamie Williams Class of 2005 CSU
"The relevance of the International Baccalaureate Program with regard to college preparation consists in the learned discipline to press forward undeterred toward goals. One can never be fully prepared for higher education; it is a different system with a distinct set of expectations. Yet, the IB's student's focus to develop competence in study and time management habits--tools that allow for successful goal setting--makes him more than able to adapt to a rigorous academic environment." Justin DiFeliciantonio Class of 2006 Swarthmore
"Although the IB program may not be fully recognized in smaller, local colleges, many of the major universities treat it almost as an admission requirement. My acceptance to the University of Toronto was dependent upon my IB diploma. When I was in 8th grade, I had trouble deciding between Hardaway, Columbus, and Northside (as many of my friends did). Now that I see where I am now, attending the #1 university in Canada, I realize that it is all thanks to the IB program. It truly is the international standard, and although it is challenging, the teachers at Hardaway are incredibly supportive and are willing to help in any way possible. Being a part of the IB program for four years puts you in smaller classes with enthusiastic teachers, and by the fourth year, the students are a closely knit family. I highly recommend this program for any student who wants a unique and challenging curriculum, but also for those who wish to attend prestigious universities, whether they be in Columbus, in Georgia, or even another country." Kayla Horofker Class of 2006 University of Toronto
The IB programme has allowed me to make a close knit group of friends and to learn in strenuous academic programs. Not only am I getting the best education, but I am also making friends to last a lifetime. Aileen Morales Class of 2005 Georgia Tech
We get to think! I thought what I was doing before was thinking, but I wasn’t. I was just memorizing facts, missing the story behind them. That doesn’t fly in the IB setting. We actually have to consider everything presented to us and reach our own conclusions…So, if you are content with being judged by what you can remember, if you are comfortable inside the box that we’ve been forced to stay in, then IB is not for you. But if you want to see what things are like OUTSIDE OF THE BOX, if you want some color in your world of black and white, then IB IS the thing for you.
When my friends talk about how easy their classes are, I think to myself that I will be able to say the same thing when I’m in college. |
